Weekly Tibetan Astrology: October 4 - October 10, 2010

NOTE: On Friday, we arrive at the auspicious ninth lunar month, during which we will celebrate Lha Bab Duchen (October 29th). On Sunday, we have the anniversaries of both the 2nd Karmapa, Karma Pakshi, and Jigme Lingpa (1729 -1798) -- each of whom may be said to have profound influence in the West. Autumn excitement is in the air, and a lot of good things are happening. Isn't October a lovely month? Nevertheless, please be aware -- there is an undercurrent which demands we exercise caution. Not neurosis, mind you, but realistic caution. Some very big, very direct, primal energies are preparing to cut loose. Dragons and tigers. Fasten your seat belts -- the month gets interesting, beginning now.

October 4, 2010 - Chinese 27th, M-T-K 26th. Dog, Kham, Blue 3. Today is zin phung. Do long life practices today. Visit the yoga studio. A day of positive energies all the way around. Do not disturb the water element in any way. Do not commence hostilities of any kind today (that goes for the whole month, actually). Avoid haircuts today.

October 5, 2010 - Chinese 28th, M-T-K 27th. Pig, Gin, Green 4. Some worry in the background. Let it evaporate naturally. Take time to strengthen the home front, and you will not be opposed. Vajrakilaya practice indicated.

October 6, 2010 - Chinese 29th, M-T-K 29th. Mouse, Zin, Yellow 5. Dharmapala Day. Let the protectors feel the praise. Extensive offerings highly recommended. Note omitted day in Tibetan practice. Do not try to assert yourself in any fashion today, or to exercise control over events. A day to exercise caution and patience in all things. Don't disturb the earth element.

October 7, 2010 - Chinese 30th, M-T-K 30th. Ox, Zon, White 6. Shakyamuni Buddha Day. Today is also sojong, and observance of this particular sojong is highly recommended. Use caution in travel. Do not speak ill of others on this day.

October 8, 2010 - Chinese 1st, M-T-K 1st. Tiger, Li, Red 7. Not a bad day for sang, but be careful about the fire.  Good day to hang flags. Good day to go vegan. Today is the first day of the 9th lunar month (Iron Dog month, if you like to look at it that way), and the birthday of a very courageous, compassionate, patient and kind personal friend of mine, to whom I now extend warmest possible birthday greetings. May your life be long, and may all things be in accord with your wishes.
Virtue, generosity, and loving-kindness
are your evident qualities, but within
a Wish-granting Jewel, who can say
which light is greater than which other?
October 9, 2010 - Chinese 3rd, M-T-K 2nd. Dragon, Dwa, Red 9. Note omitted day in Chinese practice. You can meet with success, but try to hold down expenses. Anything that needs to be done today should be done personally.

October 10, 2010 - Chinese 4th, M-T-K 3rd. Snake, Khen, White 1. Today is zin phung. As noted above, this is the anniversary of the 2nd Karmapa, Karma Pakshi, and also the anniversary of  Jigme Lingpa. Give this day over to practice, and do not expend your energy in other directions. "Keep it simple" is today's advice. Do not under any circumstance cut trees, or disturb water or earth elements. By the way -- today is 10-10-10 on the Western calendar, and the day when Kyabje Tarthang Rinpoche's birthday is celebrated.

Naga observations for the eighth  month: Very good days are lunar 2, 8, 12, 15, 29. Offerings also possible on 3 through 7, 11, 14, 16, 17, 20, 22, 23, 27, 28, 30. Very bad days are lunar 10, 19. Also avoid 1, 9, 13, 18, 21, 24, 25, 26 Naga observations for the ninth  month: In general, I want to say it is very bad to cut trees this month. Best days for offerings are lunar 12, 17, 27, and 29. Studiously avoid 6, 10, 13, 16, 20, 22, 24, 25, and 26.
